Yes. In Singapore, it’s a legal requirement for every driver to have motor insurance that covers third-party bodily injury. Getting behind the wheel without it puts you on the wrong side of the law. Beyond just meeting that legal obligation, the right motor insurance policy goes further: it covers you financially if you damage your own vehicle or cause damage to someone else’s property in an accident.

You must have a motor insurance policy or a valid cover note before you can complete the registration or transfer of ownership of a vehicle at the Land Transport Authority (LTA). If you are buying a new or used car, you can reach out to China Taiping Singapore with the vehicle’s details (chassis number, make, and model). We can issue a cover note that allows you to collect your car and drive it off the lot with the peace of mind that you are fully protected from the very first kilometre.

Our motor insurance policies naturally extend your coverage to West Malaysia and parts of Southern Thailand (within 50 miles or roughly 80km of the Thai-Malaysia border). This is a standard inclusion in our Comprehensive plans, meaning your Own Damage and Third Party Liability protections remain active while you’re on a road trip.

Driving without valid motor insurance in Singapore is a very serious offence that carries heavy penalties. If caught, you could face a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. Furthermore, the court will typically disqualify you from holding a driving license for at least 12 months.

The No-Claim Discount is a reward for safe driving. For every year you drive without making an at-fault claim, you earn a percentage discount on your renewal premium. This starts at 10% after the first year and goes up to a maximum of 50% after five consecutive claim-free years. China Taiping Singapore offers a Free NCD Protector for private car owners who have already reached a 10% NCD or higher. This allows you to make one Own Damage claim within the policy year without your hard-earned discount dropping, helping you keep your premiums low even if you have a minor mishap.

Yes, your NCD is tied to you as a driver, not to the specific vehicle or insurer. If you sell your car and buy a new one, you can transfer your accumulated NCD to the new vehicle. Similarly, if you choose to switch your policy to China Taiping Singapore from another insurer, we will recognise and honour the NCD you’ve built up elsewhere. However, please note that an NCD can generally only be applied to one vehicle at a time. If you decide to own a second car, NCD will start from 0%.

While the core legal requirements for an EV are the same as a petrol car, EVs often come with higher repair costs due to specialised parts like battery arrays and advanced sensors. It’s worth checking that your policy covers EV-specific components and, if relevant to you, whether it allows you to send your car to a manufacturer’s authorised service centre.

Yes, we offer two main paths depending on your preference and budget.

Our AutoSafe plan is more cost-effective and requires you to use China Taiping Singapore’s network of authorised workshops, where you can often enjoy a waiver of your excess for your first claim. If you prefer total flexibility, perhaps because your car is still under a manufacturer’s warranty, our AutoExcel plan allows you to choose any workshop in Singapore. This ensures that your car is handled by the mechanics you trust most, while we handle the direct settlement with the workshop.

Yes, under the GIA Motor Claims Framework, you are required to report any accident to your insurer within 24 hours (or the next working day), regardless of whether there is visible damage or if you intend to make a claim. This is a for-record report. Failing to report can result in the loss of your NCD or even the rejection of a future claim if the other party involved decides to file against you later.

When your car is stuck in the workshop for accident repairs, it can be a massive inconvenience to your daily routine. The Loss of Use benefit is an optional add-on that provides you with a daily cash allowance, typically up to $100 per day for up to 10 days, to help cover the costs of taking taxis or renting a temporary car while yours is being fixed. With a minimal premium top-up, it provides significant relief during the time your vehicle is off the road.

In Singapore, any modifications must be LTA-compliant. While minor aesthetic changes (like a new coat of paint) are usually fine, performance-enhancing modifications (like aftermarket turbos or exhaust systems) must be declared to China Taiping Singapore. If you fail to disclose significant modifications, your policy could be voided, and a claim could be rejected. It is important to note that even with LTA approval, most insurers will not pay for the cost of repairing or replacing the modified parts themselves. We will only cover the cost of restoring the car to its original manufacturer’s specifications, unless otherwise specified.

FLASH is China Taiping Singapore’s on-site accident response service, built for the moments right after a road accident, when everything feels overwhelming and you are not sure what to do next. Instead of managing the scene alone or making a separate trip to a reporting centre later, you simply call the FLASH hotline and a uniformed Field Response Officer will come to you. The service is available around the clock.

FLASH is a complimentary 24/7 value-added service included automatically with all China Taiping Singapore motor insurance policies, whether you are on the AutoExcel or AutoSafe plan. Just save the hotline number and use it if you ever need it.

It allows you to report an accident immediately on-site, removing the need to visit a physical reporting centre later. On top of that, the FLASH officer takes charge of the situation for you, photographing the scene, collecting information and evidence, and advising you on how to protect your rights. This ensures your accident is reported accurately and completely from the start, which is crucial when a claim is involved.

The FLASH service is available to all China Taiping Singapore motor policyholders involved in an accident within Singapore.

We understand that every minute counts after an accident. China Taiping Singapore is committed to a 30-minute arrival guarantee barring any unforeseen circumstances. Once you call our FLASH hotline, a Field Response Officer will aim to be by your side within half an hour, anywhere in Singapore.

No, using the FLASH service itself does not impact your NCD. Reporting an accident is a mandatory requirement under the Motor Claims Framework (MCF), regardless of who is at fault. Whether your NCD is affected depends entirely on your liability in the accident. Using FLASH simply ensures the accident is reported accurately and promptly, which can only work in your favour during the claims process.

Yes. China Taiping Singapore offers a unique advantage where NCD Protection is available for policyholders with an NCD of 10% and above (most insurers require 50%). Using FLASH to report your accident is the responsible way to handle a claim and will not jeopardise your NCD Protection benefits.
