Useful Tips

To protect both the employer and the employee, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) mandates that all employers of foreign domestic workers (FDWs) maintain a specific level of coverage. At China Taiping Singapore, our domestic helper insurance in Singapore is designed to meet and exceed these regulatory requirements. This includes a minimum of $60,000 per year for personal accident coverage and at least $60,000 annual claim limit for inpatient hospitalisation and day surgery. Additionally, a security bond of $5,000 must be furnished to MOM; China Taiping Singapore can provide a Letter of Guarantee to MOM on your behalf, so you do not have to put up the full $5,000 in cash upfront.
Under the latest MOM guidelines implemented to manage rising healthcare costs, there is a mandatory co-payment structure for larger medical expenses. For any hospitalisation or surgical bills that exceed $15,000, insurers will cover 75% of the claimable amount, while the employer is responsible for the remaining 25%.
This rule ensures that while the bulk of catastrophic medical costs are insured, there is a shared responsibility in managing the choice of medical treatments and wards. Our plans are structured to clearly outline these limits so you can plan your household finances with certainty.
Yes, she absolutely does. MOM requires that the insurance policy be active before your helper even sets foot in Singapore. When you apply for a new Work Permit or an In-Principle Approval (IPA), you must provide the details of the insurance policy and the security bond. China Taiping Singapore streamlines this process by transmitting your policy details electronically to MOM, ensuring that your helper is covered from the moment she arrives at the airport, providing you with immediate protection against any travel-related accidents or sudden illnesses during her transit.
You might notice that policy durations are slightly longer than a typical calendar year. This is because MOM requires a mandatory 2-month buffer period. Whether you are hiring a helper for a one-year or two-year contract, the insurance must remain valid for an additional two months beyond the Work Permit expiry. This ensures that your helper remains fully covered during any potential delays in repatriation or while she is waiting for her flight home after her contract ends.

In the insurance industry, pre-existing conditions (medical issues your helper had before the policy started) are generally excluded from coverage. This means if your helper was already being treated for a chronic illness before she joined your household, those specific treatments would not be claimable. However, if she has been working in Singapore for the same employer for more than 12 months under a continuous policy with China Taiping Singapore, certain chronic conditions that developed after her initial employment may become eligible for coverage. We recommend a thorough medical check-up upon her arrival to establish a clear health baseline.

Standard domestic maid insurance plans are primarily designed for events such as accidents or surgeries and do not typically cover routine visits to a General Practitioner (GP) for common ailments like a cold, cough, or flu. These minor outpatient costs are usually out of pocket expenses borne by the employer.
It is important to note that under the specific terms of China Taiping Singapore’s domestic maid insurance, no refunds are permitted once the policy has been issued and the premium paid, regardless of when the cancellation occurs.
In cases where your helper’s employment contract in Singapore is terminated, the policy is officially considered cancelled as of the date stated on the Letter of Discharge issued by MOM. While this serves to formally end the insurance coverage and the security bond liability, the policy remains non-refundable.
The mandatory 6-Monthly Medical Examination (6ME) required by MOM, which screens for pregnancy and infectious diseases, is a routine administrative cost and is not covered by standard insurance policies. The employer is responsible for the cost of these screenings at a clinic.
Standard domestic insurance policies are specifically territorial, meaning they only provide coverage while the helper is in Singapore. If your helper goes back to her home country for a holiday or home leave, the China Taiping Singapore policy is temporarily suspended for that duration. We strongly advise employers to purchase a separate, short-term Travel Insurance policy for their helper during her trip. This ensures she has coverage for medical emergencies or travel mishaps while she is outside of Singapore’s jurisdiction.
If your helper is hospitalised and unable to perform her household duties, you still remain responsible for her basic salary and the monthly government levy. To ease this burden, China Taiping Singapore includes a Wage & Levy Reimbursement benefit. This provides a fixed daily allowance of up to $30 per day) for every day she is in the hospital, up to a maximum period of 60 days. This daily cash benefit helps you offset the ongoing costs of her employment while she is recovering.
