Deputy Head of Department, Personal Lines

Job Responsibility:

  • Support the Head of Department in providing strategic and operational oversight of the department, ensuring full compliance with MAS regulations, industry guidelines, and internal governance standards.
  • Assist in leading, developing, and managing the underwriting teams to strengthen underwriting discipline, operational efficiency, and risk controls across Personal Lines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners – including agents, brokers, and financial advisers – to identify business opportunities and drive growth of the Personal Lines portfolio.
  • Lead the profitable development of business segments by expanding and growing profitable business lines.
  • Prepare new business quotations, reviewing renewals, performing risk assessments, and escalating cases to the HOD for further review or approval when required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members through effective delegation, performance monitoring, coaching, and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Engage intermediaries to communicate product offerings and underwriting guidelines, while monitoring their production performance, compliance, and credit standing.
  • Address enquiries, feedback, and complaints from customers and business partners professionally and in alignment with service standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Assist the HOD in preparing timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly business performance reports for senior management.
  • Contribute to market research, competitor analysis, and market intelligence activities to support product enhancements, pricing strategies, and new product development aligned with Singapore market trends.
  • Undertake any other duties or projects assigned by the Company or the HOD.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 10 years’ experience in the Singapore General Insurance Industry.
  • CGI and HI certifications required.
  • At least 8 years of experience in Personal Lines underwriting.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Experience in underwriting and business development of non-motor Personal Lines products preferred.
